Our Mission
The Center of Excellence for developing Age-Friendly Communities is to create a network of committed panchayats, municipalities, and cities in Kerala State to develop and implement projects under the eight domains that qualify an age-friendly community. Through collaboration with professional bodies and institutions, the Center aims to create standardized programs that can be upscaled throughout the state, ultimately working towards making Kerala State an age-friendly state.
Our vision
To establish Kerala State as a model for age-friendly communities, where individuals of all ages can thrive and live fulfilling lives. By building a strong network of organizations and institutions, we aim to create a common ground for collaboration and innovation in developing programs that promote inclusivity, accessibility, and quality of life for all residents. Through our efforts, we envision a future where age-friendly principles are integrated into all aspects of community life, leading to a more equitable and vibrant society.
The Centre of Excellence for Developing Age-Friendly Communities is a key initiative within the World Health Organization's Global Network for Age-Friendly Communities and Cities (WHO -GNAFCC). This network aims to promote healthy and active aging by creating environments that are inclusive and accessible for people of all ages.
The CEDAC serves as a hub for knowledge exchange, research, and best practices in the field of age-friendly community development. It provides resources and support to local governments, organizations, and communities looking to make their neighborhoods more age-friendly. One of the key goals of the Centre of Excellence is to help communities identify and address the specific needs and preferences of older adults. This includes providing guidance on creating age-friendly housing, transportation, outdoor spaces, and social participation opportunities.
By sharing information and expertise, the CEDAC helps communities around the world implement age-friendly policies and programs that support the health and well-being of older residents. This collaborative approach fosters innovation and allows for the sharing of successful strategies and solutions. CEDAC collaborates with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups, to develop and implement programs and initiatives that address the specific needs and challenges faced by elderly.
The organization also conducts research and advocacy to raise awareness about issues affecting this population and promote policy changes that support their rights and well-being. Through its work, CEDAC aims to create a more inclusive and accessible society where elderly individuals can live with dignity, independence, and social participation. By fostering partnerships and collaboration, CEDAC strives to build a network of support and resources that can help improve the overall quality of life for older adults in Kerala.
Overall, the Centre of Excellence for Developing Age-Friendly Communities plays a vital role in advancing the global movement towards creating age-friendly environments that enable people to age with dignity, independence, and quality of life. Through its work, the Centre helps to ensure that communities are inclusive and supportive of people of all ages, contributing to a more age-friendly world for everyone.
